He was always there thru'out my childhood - all other breeds seemed 'one-dimensional'!! He minded us totally including saving us from dreaded food such as 'liver'......

A puppy called Timmy sold by our local butcher. He had papers and was described as an ELkhound. We discovered years later , he was a GSD/Keeshond cross. When he was killed we saw a newspaper advert for an Elkhound; sent to visit and the rest is 50 years of history.

While living in Ainthorpe on the North Yorkshire moors, and as one of the village young lads we were approached by Miss E Langman and asked if we had seen a grey dog with a curly tail as one of her dogs had escaped We agreed to help find it and disappeared on the motorbikes in all directions. Cutting a long story short it was I who found the dog and returned it to Miss Langman.s kennels. It was the first time I had seen a Norwegian Elkhound and she had 12 of them. I met Lillabo Gunter who was a beautiful male with superb harness markings but a bit grumpy and barked a lot. Then I met Lillabo Erica and I just fell in love with the breed. I started going up to help out with the dogs and then going to the dog shows as her bag boy. She had a kennel maid called Jean who had a little Gogomobile car. I have fond memories of going to the shows squashed in the car with two dogs in the back. We moved from Ainthorpe to York in 1964 and I bought Lillabo Erica who had been retired by then. Rikki (Pet name) as she was called lived as my companion for some 6 years. Finally moving to Redcar in 1969 where Enid & I got married in 1970. And the rest as they say is history!!!!!!!

I saw a program about the Vikings abandoning Greenland. They had an elkhound in one of the scenes as there had been bones of one found there. Went on the internet did some research. Everybody in family agreed that they would make an excellent dog for us. Rang some people in the breed club to find out more. 15 years later have three.
